Winter Solstice Meditation with Phil

  • Fire Horse Yoga 515 Main Street Jasper, IN, 47546 United States (map)

Solstice is a time for pause and silent reflection, and this energy shift makes a good time for meditation. During the busy time of the holidays, take 30 minutes to pause, breathe and work on relaxation. Class is led by KRI-Certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Phil Barth.
* No preregistration required.
* $7 or use your class pass.
* No experience necessary.

Coincidentally, December’s full Moon—the Full Cold Moon—will also appear on the night of the 21st, though it will not be at its absolute peak until the next day. So, keep your eyes peeled for a (near) Winter Solstice Full Moon that night! (Believe it or not, the next full Moon to actually peak on the winter solstice won’t be until 2094!)

The winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight in the whole year. At the winter solstice, the Sun’s path has reached its southernmost position. The next day, the path will advance northward. However, a few days before and after the winter solstice, the change is so slight that the Sun’s path seems to stay the same, or stand still. The Sun is directly overhead at “high-noon” on Winter Solstice at the latitude called the Tropic of Capricorn. Source:

More about your teacher:
Phil Barth, KRI-Certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher

Phil began practicing yoga around 2002 while living in San Francisco, working as a technical support engineer. After practicing many different styles of yoga, and using this practice to help recover from and manage a repetitive motion injury, he began a journey into health and wellness. Phil became certified to teach Kundalini yoga in 2004 shortly after moving back to his home in Southern Indiana, and was the co-owner of Fire Horse Yoga, Massage, & Wellness from 2004-2008 with his wife, Dana Weidenbenner. His interest in yoga and healing foods led him to a career as a professional cook and chef working in traditional and health-supportive cooking. Phil gained a degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York City along this journey, and he continued his work in catering and personal chef services in San Diego, CA, while Dana was earning a degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. (Dana now owns and operates Jasper Acupuncture LLC). Phil has managed several catering and cooking operations in Southern California and Indiana, along with continuing his personal yoga practice. He has over 1000 hours of yoga teaching experience, and uses yoga as a tool to help ‘keep up.’ Phil and Dana have two children, and they live in downtown Jasper.
