Yoga Nidra

Join Samantha Knies Gray for a montly Yoga Nidra class. Commonly known as "yogic sleep," Yoga Nidra meditation is a powerful, guided technique which involves lying down on a padded yoga mat while following the teacher's voice. Yoga Nidra offers a safe space to be present and release long-held emotions or thought-blockages. Falling asleep is okay, too, as you will still receive benefits while the unconscious mind is absorbing the practice. The practice will begin with a few gentle yoga stretches to warm up before the start of the Nidra. Please dress comfortably and warm — wear socks/layers and consider bringing an extra blanket/pillow.

No pre-registration required.

Ayurveda :: Wellspring of Inner Beauty

:: A Spring Series with Kari Nolan ::
Our story of self- love begins by creating a compassionate relationship with our own body. Our bodies are the most honest, primal teachers that we will ever know and when we draw our philosophy of nourishment and care from an inner wellspring of kindness, we diminish our own suffering, and we contribute, in kind, to the healing of our Earth. In the philosophy of Ayurveda, an ancient, sister medical science of Hatha Yoga, we are inseparable from Earth, and the natural elements and ways in which she heals us, are actually born within us, as our own power of self-healing.

Spring, in the tradition of Ayurveda and Yoga, is the perfect season to begin new inner and outer health and beauty regimens. In this series you will learn simple, calming and deeply nourishing daily Ayurveda practices for your mind and body. Each session will include a warm, interactive and intuitive lecture, with gentle, restorative Yoga and Pranayama. You will be introduced to simple and affordable Ayurvedic herbal recipes, remedies and resources that will benefit your self-esteem and support self-care throughout the seasons of your life.

Learn morning and evening care rituals which foster mental and physical balance and sound sleep.

Calming and care of your immune system through Abhyanga, a special Ayurvedic massage method used also to enhance lymph flow, and induce natural states of meditation.

Specialized Care of your skin, scalp, hair, and all of your sense organs; eyes, ears, nose and mouth.

Specific Ayurvedic Marma points of the hands and feet, similar to acupressure points. which release tension throughout the organ systems and entire body.

Investment: $30

Your guide into the realms of inner beauty, Kari, grew up on a southern Indiana farm, where in early childhood she discovered Nature to be her greatest love, healer & teacher. She has practiced Yoga since her youth, and traveled much of her life to study with classical, spiritual teachers in Ayurveda, Yoga, Sufism, Taiji & Visionary CranioSacral Therapy. She combines all of these spiritual elements with over 20 years of Yoga and Ayurveda practice and certified teaching experience, offering specialized therapy rooted in the oldest methods of Ayurveda known as Shamana. She can be reached for questions or to schedule private sessions at 502-551-3966.

Yoga Nidra :: A Restorative Guided Meditation

Join Samantha Knies Gray for Yoga Nidra! Yogic sleep as it is commonly known, is an immensely powerful meditation technique. As you lie down, supported in savasana, all you have to do is follow Samantha's voice. Falling asleep is okay, too, as you will still receive benefits while the unconscious mind is absorbing the practice. Yoga Nidra offers a space to explore what you need in the moment, as well as an opportunity to work on releasing long-held emotions. The class will start with a few gentle stretches to prepare your body for stillness. "Most people are trying to change themselves," says Richard Miller, a San Francisco Bay Area yoga teacher and clinical psychologist. "Yoga nidra asks them to welcome themselves. That moment of true welcoming is where the profound transformation takes place." For this practice, wear socks, warm layers, and consider bringing an extra blanket. We have limited space. About your teacher, Samantha Knies Gray, RYT ~
Samantha made yoga a daily part of her life when she lived in Carmel, Indiana – maintaining a home practice when she wasn’t sweating it out during hot classes after work. She began practicing at Fire Horse after moving back home to Dubois County in January 2016. Samantha fell in love with yin yoga after taking one class with Julia Jalles and knew that she wanted to bring this practice to the lives of others. She finished her 200-hour teacher training at Fire Horse in November 2017 and is passionate about the benefits of all yoga, but especially yin, restorative, and children’s yoga.

In addition to teaching, Sam attends regular vinyasa and hatha classes at Fire Horse and maintains a daily yin practice at home with her two young daughters. She’s an avid believer in taking time out of our busy lives (and taking time off of heavy workouts!) to rest + restore our bodies and minds. Samantha’s intention is to bring a deep level of peace and an awareness of body + breath to every student she teaches.

Winter Solstice Meditation with Phil

Solstice is a time for pause and silent reflection, and this energy shift makes a good time for meditation. During the busy time of the holidays, take 30 minutes to pause, breathe and work on relaxation. Class is led by KRI-Certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Phil Barth.
* No preregistration required.
* $7 or use your class pass.
* No experience necessary.

Coincidentally, December’s full Moon—the Full Cold Moon—will also appear on the night of the 21st, though it will not be at its absolute peak until the next day. So, keep your eyes peeled for a (near) Winter Solstice Full Moon that night! (Believe it or not, the next full Moon to actually peak on the winter solstice won’t be until 2094!)

WHAT IS THE WINTER SOLSTICE?
The winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight in the whole year. At the winter solstice, the Sun’s path has reached its southernmost position. The next day, the path will advance northward. However, a few days before and after the winter solstice, the change is so slight that the Sun’s path seems to stay the same, or stand still. The Sun is directly overhead at “high-noon” on Winter Solstice at the latitude called the Tropic of Capricorn. Source: www.almanac.com

Each class is different and challenging, covering a wide variety of yoga postures to help you transcend the limitations of your mind. Carrie believes that every person can practice yoga and will help you find your most comfortable pose through the use of props and various modifications. Carrie's classes also include a good dose of yoga philosophy. Her classes will encourage you to challenge yourself mentally and physically all while you're having fun!

Carrie began her yoga practice in 2003 after the birth of her first daughter. She started yoga as a way to get her body in shape after pregnancy, but quickly realized that yoga had so much more to offer. While continuing her physical practice she began to deepen her knowledge of yoga. As a result of experiencing greater peace in her life, Carrie decided to begin sharing her love of yoga with others. She enrolled in teacher training and has been sharing her love of yoga ever since.

Carrie and her husband, Rob, opened Inner Spring Yoga in 2013 with the intention of creating a heart centered community in which Southern Indiana and Louisville residents can learn the teachings of yoga and equip themselves to spread peace and kindness into the world.

Carrie completed her 200 hour teacher training at Eternal Health Yoga under the guidance of Shelli Carpenter. In addition to holding a 200 hour certificate and being registered with Yoga Alliance, Carrie also holds a teacher training certificate in Yin Yoga Practice and Theory which she received under the guidance of Paul Grilley, and is currently working toward receiving her 500 hour teaching certification at Asheville Yoga Center. Carrie has practiced under many amazing teachers including Sharon Gannon, David Life, Doug Swenson, Anna Ferguson, Julie Kirkpatrick and Michael Johnson. Carrie continues to learn new information to share with her classes by participating in workshops and trainings.

Carrie is a lifelong resident of Southern Indiana, where she lives with her husband, 2 daughters and 3 cats. When Carrie isn't teaching yoga she's busy watching her daughters compete in swimming and gymnastics.

Basic Sanskrit for Yogis with Carrie Klaus, E-RYT, YACEP

Have you ever wondered what your yoga teacher is saying when she calls out the pose names? Are you a yoga teacher and want to sharpen your Sanskrit pronunciation (you'll be surprised at what you might be mispronouncing!)? Have you tried to read the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, or any other work translated from Sanskrit and feel like you are lost in translation?

This workshop is for all students of yoga who wish to deepen their understanding of the language of this practice (not just for teachers).
